My Polar Voyage Notes- Bergs and Fins

South Georgia Voyage Notes – 5

Apart from looking out for Seabirds in flight, the on board watch was always on for Whales, Dolphins and Icebergs. Though I imagine the number of bergs and their size would not be comparable to the ones closer to the Antarctic Peninsula, still we saw a few cool ones and one iceberg that was a massive Ice wall that seemed to stretch for miles! There was also a massive berg with a cute colony of chinstrap penguins hanging out on the mountain of ice – Indeed the coolest place to hang out! The awesome Joe Kaplan and Dave Schoch from the expedition team were always on the bridge spotting Birds and Whales with the same passion and enthusiasm for the entire 14 days. I tried to hang out on the Bridge for the longest, but it was difficult to sustain he same level of enthusiasm owing to the freezing conditions and wind chill !. Every Time a whale was spotted, the announcement from the bridge would bring us rushing out but invariably they would be gone by the time I reached the bridge! The exception was the time when a trio of Peale’s Dolphins were swimming along the boat for the longest time, every now and then surfacing in typical dolphin style. After a few tries, got a decent photo of one of them
